Atticus once said, "The only thing that does not abide by majority rule is a person's conscience." How important is truth to Atticus? Scout? Aunt Alexandra? Miss Maudie? Miss Stephanie? Is it okay to compromise the truth or bend the law? Is it ever necessary?
truth is very important to Atticus he lives by the fact that whats right is right and if you do somthing wrong you should admit it. Scout and Jem grew up with Atticus as a father so they know the true meaning as well along with Miss.Maudie however Miss.Stephanie and aunt Alexandra dont live by that much.

Telling the truth is very important and always necessary. It is not okay to compromise the truth or bend the law. It is not okay because everyone needs to know the truth. Sometimes you might be put into a situation when you think about lying but you should not lie anyway. Although the truth may hurt sometimes, poeple still need to know. The truth is important to Atticus because he tells it like it is no matter what. He taught his children to speak the truth also.

The truth is very important to Atticus because he think you must live by the facts. He belives that you must tell the truth even if it is wrong. Scout and Jem also no the meaning of truth because Atticus had raised they that way. It is not okay to compromise the truth or bend the law even under certain circumstances. You must tell the truth no matter how bad it is.

ReplyDeleteI think turth is most important thing to Atticus, because he is teaching how truth is important to Jem and Scout. So I think Jem and Scout think turth is important.
ReplyDeleteThis is very important to Atticus because He want his kids to tell the truth. Kevin J
ReplyDeleteI think truth is most important to Atticus because he needs to tell the truth about Tom Robinsons trial so that if they lie the judge might find out and make them loose and they might have to kill Tom Robinsons so instea of lying Atticus tells the truth

The truth is very important to Atticus, that is why he always tries to do his best in court. To Scout there is not much of a diffrence yet because of her age but i think the truth is important to scout because she always says what is true even if it would get her in trouble like when she told Atticus about her second fight. It is not ok to compromis or bend the truth in law. If you do then someone inecent could end up in jail or worse. Somtimes it is neseasry to bend the truth because somtimes a little kid can not take all of the truth at once.

I agree with Scott P. Atticus is much attached to the truth. He never lies and is raising his children to be truthful. He always does what’s right. Aunt Alexandra and Miss Stephanie don’t live by the truth. The truth is very important in life. If something is wrong you should still tell the truth.

To Atticus, the truth is one of the most important things, at some times it is ok to bend the truth a little, or bend the law, but it's never the best way to figure anything out.

I think Atticus beleives so much in the truth because he would not be able to live with himself if he didn't do what's right and the truth. He wants his kids to grow up with these ideas too. Miss STephanie isn't as into the truth that much. I think she just wants the most shocking gossip even if it isn't the truth. Aunt Alexandra is about apearances even if these apearances aren't the truth. As long as they seem like the truth it is ok with her. I dont think Miss Maudie has a reason to lie. She has a good life and lover her flowers. She is kind and i don't think she has anything to hide, but if she did i think she would be truthfull.

The truth is improtant to Atticus because that is all he ask for and if you don th lie the ponishment wont be as bad. Also it is neber ok to bend the law becaus eyou should alway tell the truth.

In the story trust and honesty is very important to all of the characters, especially Atticus. Atticus treats his children like adults and trusts them. Once they break his trust I'm sure Atticus will have to become more tough and lay down the law. There also is alot of trust during the trial. Judge Taylor has to believe that everyone is going to tell the truth. So trust is very important in this book.

Truth is something Atticus believes and always speaks it. Atticus is teaching Jem and Scout how important it is. He also wants to tell his kids that truth is very important. Atticus says that you should always tell the truth even if you are going to get in trouble or if it's sometimes the wrong thing to do. Atticus says that you should always admit the truth. On the other hand, Miss.Stephanie and Aunt Alexandra don't live by that much and don't always tell the truth.

I believe that Atticus believes in the truth very much. For example, I am sure that the reason he decided to take the Tom Robinson case was because he knew that Tom didnt do the crime. He makes sure that Jem and Scout know that the truth and being honest is a very important quality in a person. Miss Maudie and Aunt Alexandra are not as focused on knowing the truth and living by it as much. Aunt Alexandra just wants things to be how they should be.

I agree with you about Atticus and Aunt Alexandra. However, Miss Maudie has similar ideals to Atticus, so I believe she too believes in truth. I think that is part of the reason she doesn't go to the trial. She knows how wrong the accusations are, and she refuses to be part of it.

Truth is very important to Atticus. He always tells Scout and Jem the truth. Even if he doesnt tell them everything its still the truth. He only holds back when he know it would be too much for them. He teaches them that being truthful is a very important part of being a good person. Also, Atticus does the trial despite the fact that he is going to lose the case because someone needs to speak the truth. Toms family and tom deserve the truth.

Atticus is always truthful and wise when it comes to whats right and wrong. He always wants to be fair to everyone no matter what color. Jem and Scout realy respects Atticus, so they always want to be truthful to him too. I think the time when Jem said they weren't doing anything related to Boo; he technically did lie to Atticus, which was ironic, since he wanted to hang on to Atticus's trust in him. As for Miss Stephanie, she seems to stretch everything out when she gossips. Miss Maudie thinks that the truth is important too, which is why she didn't believe in going to the trial, and she always tell Scout and Jem the truth. It think it's important to tell the truth, but in some emergencies, it may be necessary to lie.

The truth is very important to Atticus. During the trial he asked questions over and over to get the truth. Miss Stephanie tells rumors and lies so the truth is not very important to her. That is how important the truth is to some people.

It is not okay to bend the law for people because Thomas Jefferson said “All Men Are Created Equal.” Therefore all the people should obey the same laws. It is not right to bend the law for certain people.
ReplyDeleteT-Fal409
The truth is extreamly important to Atticus. He always tells his kids the truth and dosen't sugar coat it. The truth is definitely not important to Miss Stephanie because she is always spreading rumors. You should tell the truth but it is okay to lie sometimes. For example if you don't like your friends haircut it would be rude to tell them that it looks really bad because it would upset them.

ReplyDeleteIt is very important to Atticus to tell the truth and to discover the truth as a lawyer, but Atticus has a quality that stands out in this novel. He has integrity...the ability to do the right thing, no matter whether it is popular or unpopular. It is not just about the truth, as imortant as that is, but also a respect for all people and being able to do what you know in your heart is right when the people around you cannot. Mrs R
ReplyDeleteMrs. R., I'm so impressed that you are blogging at 6:50 am!! Your comment about integrity is making me wonder about Atticus' influence on his children. Our parents help to form who we are, but so do our friends, and society in general. Scout and Jem have friends who denigrate Boo, the Ewells, Tom Robinson, and even their own father. They grew up in a society that continued to support racism. Will they reflect their father's values, or will they be more influenced by others? Which "truth" will become theirs?

The concept of truth is an important theme in To Kill a Mockingbird. First of all, truth is clearly a major priority to Atticus. He chose to risk his well-being and even his life by defending Tom Robinson, just to try to show the truth of Tom's innocence to the world. Atticus' feelings about truth rub off very much onto his children, especially Jem, as they grow older. Jem shows his feelings about the truth when he breaks down in tears after Tom Robinson was found guilty. Some other characters, like Aunt Alexandra and Stephanie, do not care as much about the truth. What matters most to them is being a "lady", regardless of whether that means abiding by the truth or not. I do not think that the truth or law should be compromised. In the story, the law was bent for the Ewells- they didn't have to go to school. I think this is not right because if the Ewell children are never forced to attend school, they will never gain enough of an education to live a normal life or make money. Once again, truth and the lack of truth is a relevant issue in To Kill a Mockingbird.
