Stereotypes

Discuss different characters and/or groups that are stereotyped. How are the stereotypes rightly or wrongly assigned?

  1. Tom Robsinson and the black community had to deal with sterotypes. Blacks are mistreated as someone lower than whites. They are sterotyped to be mean, agressive, and blamed for everything. Tom Robinson is an example of disprooving this sterotype by showing that he can be a nice innocent person who was just trying to help and didnt want any trouble.

  2. The group that is sterotyped is the blacks. I think they are sterotyped wrongly because they always seem to be and are found guilty wether or not they did the crime.

  3. Different groups that are stereotyped would deffinetly be that blacks and thew whites. They are wrongly assigned because people shouldnt be judged by the color of there skin.

  4. The black people are stereotyped the most. People think they are all bad. They get blamed for nothing they did and get killed for it. An example of Blacks being stereotyped is when Nate Radley shot at Jem and Scout, and he was so racist that he said he shot at a black guy that got so scared he turned white.

  5. The group in the book that is stereotyped is definitely the black people. They are wrongly assigned because just because the color of their skin it has to be them that did some thing wrong. They say that the white people would never do that. That is not true just because of their skin color does not make them the bad guy. Also, I think the Ewells are stereotyped because everybody thinks that if they a all trash. Maybe one of them is not like the other ones, it would be very hard for him to get his own name and not be considered one of the trash Ewells that everybody thinks he is.

  6. there are many diffrent stero types but back in the day the main was black and white. The Black stero types was that they did everythign wrong, they could not do anygood jsut be a nusenace. The White sterp type was that they could do no wrong, and if somthing happend to them it was because of a black person.

  7. Tom Robinson is a black man who was stereotyped. He as well as the black community is always stereotyped. When ever something goes wrong in the town the people always accuse a black man. Tom might be a really nice caring person but people think he is guilty just because he is a black man. Not only are the white people against the black community but the black people do not like the white people. When Jem and Scout go to Calpurnia’s church a black woman yells at Cal because she brought white children to their church. This shows there are many different stereotypes in the book to kill a mocking bird.

  8. The blacks are stereotyped. I know that they are stereotyped as being mean and bad people. Even though they did not commit the crime, they will with out a doubt me convicted. They are wrongly assigned. One example of this is the Tom Robinson case. The judge and Atticus both agree that Tom did not commit the crime but they also know that everyman on the jury are racist. Most likely, Most of the jury members were in the angry mob that went to go get Tom.

  9. Blacks and whites was the main stereo type back in the days. People thought that blacks and whites should be treated differently but they should not. Just becasue somones skin is a different color does not mean they should be treated differently. Tom Robinsons is a black man so many people treat him differently.

  10. Stereotypes have a lot of effect of the people on this book. For example, black people are stereotyped as lower than dirt and treated poorly because of the color of their skin. They are stereotyped as poor, nasty people when really a lot aren’t. Another person who is stereotyped is Atticus. He is stereotyped as somebody who loves black people just because he is defending Tom Robinson in court. He doesn’t hate black people but it doesn’t mean he loves them. Those are a few stereotypes of this book.

  11. There are many stero types. But one major stereo type back in the day was that colored people were bad and did nothing right. Also they said that white people were great and did nothing wrong. If a colored person did more than talk to a white person they would get in a lot of trouble even if it was the white person who did more than talk to a colored person.

  12. I also think that the black people were stereotyped because the white poeple thought that the black people were under them and not as smart or important which is not true. So there are many racist people in the book that stereotype the black people.

  14. The people that are the most stero typed in this book are black people. Black people are the ones that are most stero typed because they were lower ranked than white people were. For example if white people were in court they would get a good lawyer who would really try and defend them and a good chance of winning the trail. If blacks were in court they would get a very bad lawyer who wont really try and if they do try it wouldnt be the best they could do and they wouldnt have a good chance of winning. This is why black people were stero typed in this book.

  17. The main stereotype in this book is between the blacks and whites. This is shown because they make the black community look like they are a step lower then all the whites. They always call the blacks “niggers” and mean names. Also blacks are mistreated in the justice system because all of the people in the courts are white.

  18. The main stereotype in this book is that black people are worse people than whites. Although this is not true, many people in the book think it is. This stereotype is shown during the Tom Robinson trial. It was completely obvious that Tom was innocent by the way he was talking and the evidence from Atticus, but the verdict was guilty. The white jurymen thought that Tom should go to jail just because he is black and Mayella was a white girl. This stereotype is also shown in the evidence Atticus gives which is that Bob Ewell beat up Mayella. He probably did this because he saw Mayella kissing Tom and he didn’t want her to kiss a black man.

  20. The black community is stereotyped because they are assumed to be bad people. In reality, they are not. Tom Robinson was stereotyped in the court because people did not listen to what he had to say. They made their judgments based on his race.

  21. I think that there are many stereotypes in this book but, the main one is definetly blacks and whites. This is the main stereotype because everyone thought that blacks were bad and whites werent. Also, a lot of people thought that whites should have nothing to do with blacks because they are not real people. An example of this is Mr. Bob Ewell didn't want his daughter to have a relationship with Tom Robinson because he was colored.

  22. I think the Mob group that came to the jail was stereo typed that they all hated blacks and killed people and lynched them and i think that is assigned correctly. Another person that is stereo typed is Tom Robinson just for one reason...HE is black!! I don't get why that was happening back then...But he was treated very badly and his story and court was very believable and the Ewells story was not at all.

  23. I think Mayella is stereotyped because she is a Ewell. She is expected to be dirty and lazy. Really thought she wants to look nice and have a nice place to live. You can tell this because she was clean and she has the flowers. She is hard working and keeps her family together, but no one gives her respect.

  24. Stereotypes are often found in Maycomb. One stereotype is that the black people are considered the cause of bad things that happen, and are considered lower than white people in society. This is not true, as Tom Robinson is very kind and never did anything wrong, even though he is being blamed for committing rape. Also, another stereotype found in Maycomb is that the Cunninghams are believed to be dirty and lower in social class. They are greatly looked down upon. This is also not true, because Walter Cunningham is a very kind boy who is polite and should be treated as any other child. Many of the stereotypes found in Maycomb are untrue.

  25. There are many stereotypes in To Kill A Mockingbird. One example of this is the discrimination against black people. In this book all African Americans are bad people who all do bad things and are incapable at being nice. One example of this is when Nathan Radley found somebody on their property even though he knew that it was a white person he said that it was a negro because he didn’t like black people and was under the assumption that it must’ve been a black person because they are the only people in the community who can do a bad thing. Another example of this is Tom Robinson being accused and convicted of raping Mayella Ewell even though he was incapable of this crime and that there were faults in the Ewell’s testimony which even shows that he did not commit the crime and yet, he was still convicted just because of the color of his skin. Race however was not the only stereotype religion is also; as long as people are “Christ-fearing men” they can do no wrong. Like when Robert Ewell was on witness stand being cross-examined by Atticus he started yelling and saying that he was a “Christ-fearing man” just like everyone else in the courtroom and that he wouldn’t lie or use vulgar language that wasn’t in the confines of a white Christian language. Finally, the kids are faced with stereotypes they are thought of as mature people who can deal with everyday crisis and that they are not mature enough to listen to the case. But these stereotypes are false and Jem, Scout, and Dill completely understand all of the testimony and the proceedings of the case and their surroundings.

  26. One group of people that is stereostyped is the black community. They are treated differently and unfairly. The Ewells are Cunninghams are also stereotyped because they are poor and low on the social ladder. I don't think these steroeotypes are right at all.

  27. The black community is stereotyped because everyone thinks they are bad people because they are black. Tom Robinson was faultily accused of rape by Mayella Ewell because he was black. When put on trial the jury was al white and they all said he was guilty, mostly because he is black. That shows you how the black community is stereotyped.

  30. There are many groups and people that are stereotyped in the book, To Kill a Mockingbird. The most common group is the black people. They are judged because of their skin color. Racism was very big in Alabama. The stereotypes were very wrong because there were a lot of nice black people, but since they were colored they were judged. Also, Mayella Ewell was stereotyped by many people. She was stereotyped because she was a Ewell. They were very poor and low in society. They lived off of well fare which was not enough to support the 8 kids. Lastly, there is Dolphus Raymond. He pretended that his bottle of coke was whiskey so that people wouldn’t judge him since he liked black women.

  33. One steryotype in this book is that almost all the white people think that the only thing black me think about is raping white women and stealing. I think that is a very bad steryotype and its really unfortunate that some people today still think that even thogh mos people have moved on from it. That is also a big part of why Tom Robinson got a guilty vote because of that steryotype.

  34. In "To Kill A Mokingbird" there are many stereotypes. The black men in Maycomb have the stereotypes of being pigs and only thinking about rape and theft. Many white people back then thought that. Also the Ewells are giving the stereotype of dirty, disgusting, and trashy. For example, nobody got to know Mayella Ewell enough to know that she is caring and takes care of red flowers.-Jordi H.

  35. i think white people are as much strotyped as the blacks. while the black people may have there own unfair stereotypes, the whites are basicly stereotyped for stereotyping. stereotyping dosent have to be negative, it just means associating a specific quality or character trait with a certain race, religion, or class.

  36. I think a major stereostype in To Kill a Mocking was how black people were treated. In the book it mentioned how the people of Maycomb, as well as many other southern towns thought all black men thought about was women and rape. Obviously this was not true. The people of the south never gave blacks a fair trial whether it was a child or a man. I think its terrible for people to be racist against a certain race, religon or anything.

  38. I think a couple people in this story were stereotyped. Tom Robinson was definitley a stereotype because after the whole trial was over and everything was said, the jury still chose Tom as guilty just because he is black. People thought that blacks were disgusting, dirty, and bad which is why it didnt matter if he was wrong or right because he would always be wrong. Tom was probably the most important person in the book to be stereotyped.

  39. There are many stereotypes in this book. Tom Robinson is stereotyped by the jury during the raping trial when he is said to be guilty. Even though all the facts were in his favor, the jury could not get past the fact that he had black skin. Also, Boo Radley is stereotyped as a vicious, squirrel eating person even though he is caring. He showed this when he came out and put a blanket on Scout's shoulders eralier in the book.

  40. ok lets be honest. steriotypes are mean and politicaly incorect. Im not saying that all steriotypes are true but a lot of them are based on observations people make them selves. If a every time a southern man sees a black man in court he's found guilty, that man will believe that all black men are criminals. if you treat a man like a criminal he will begin to act like one, so the steriotypes just perpetuate themselves.

  41. I think one of Harper Lee's goals in writing this book was to break stereotypes, such as those against black people. She does this through her descriptions of Calpurnia and Tom Robinson. In doing so, she is also able to criticize Southenr customs, such as the JIm Crow laws. Mrs. Bshara

  42. Black People face a major stereotype in the book. They are outsider in the town. Peole belive that all they think about is rape and theft which is not true. Even now in life some people are stereotypical against blacks. In the story, even though this isnt mentioned alot mixed children are stereotyped. Whites dont want them because even if you have a drop of black blood in you, you are considered black. Which means that you are immdediatly unaccepted, an outsider. Blacks dont want you because even if your are part black you still have white blood in you and can turn out to act like them.

  43. Stereotypes are used a lot in To Kill a Mockingbird. In this book, people are sterotyped mostly as black and white, but there are groups within these as well. There are the drunks, the poor, the rich, the gossipers, and many more. Sterotypes play a big role in this book because even though most people knew that Tom Robinson was definately innocent, the jury ruled him as guilty just because he was black. People in this community also think that just because a person has one drop of black blood in their body, they are all bad and all they think about is hurting people and stealing. Being seperated as black and white is probably the most obvious form of people getting sterotyped in this book.

  47. There are many characters that are stereotyped in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. First, the Cunninghams are stereotyped as bad people because they are poor farmers and can’t pay anybody with money. This stereotype is wrong because they aren’t bad people just because they can’t pay for things. The Ewells are also stereotyped as bad people because they are poor and Bob Ewell is an alcoholic. This stereotype is correct because The Ewells are bad people because they wrongfully accused Tom Robinson of raping Mayella and that Bob Ewell is a bad person and beats his kids. Believe it or not, Atticus Finch is stereotyped in this book. People call him a “nigger-lover” just because he is representing Tom in the trial and he believes in justice. Those are the many stereotypes in this book.

  48. There are two people I can think of that are stereotyped. Tom Robinson is stereotyped as guilty because he is black. Even if he is not guilty he would be found guilty because a black man was always guilty. This stereotype was wrongly assigned because the jury didn’t really even give him a chance. He was wrongly assigned being guilty because if you heard the trial it did not sound like he was guilty. Another boy who is stereotyped is Walter Cunningham. He is stereotyped because he is from Old Sarum and is not from a good family. Aunt Alexandra tells Scout she cannot have Walter Cunningham over to their house because in Aunt Alexandra’s definition, “he is trash”. He is considered trash by Aunt Alexandra because of where he is from not who he is. Tom Robinson and Walter Cunningham are stereotyped.

  49. In To Kill a Mockingbird stereotyped groups are the black people and the white people. The stereotypes are wrongly assigned because the black people are stereotyped to be mean and liars, but they aren’t all. For example, Tom Robinson is black so everyone expects him to be mean, but he really is a good, truthful person. Another example is Mayella is a white girl so she is found innocent and they all believe her but she is the one who is lying. In conclusion, the people in To Kill a Mockingbird are wrongly stereotyped.

  50. Stereotypes are a big part of this book. For example Aunt Alexander stereotypes any person who came from a good family a good person and anyone from a bad family a bad person. You really see this when she wont let Scout play with Walter just because he is a Cunningham. Also she doesn’t like Calpurnia raising Scout and Jem because she is black even though Calpurnia is a very nice and smart woman who is like a mother to them. Of course this stereotype against black people is shared with a lot of uneducated people. This is why Tom Robinsin is in court for a crime he did not do. The jury is not looking at the case only at the color of the mans skin. This is wrong and un just. However not all stereotypes are bad. Scout and Jem are expected to do great things in there life because they are Finches. Without this stereotype Atticus might not have taught Jem and Scout how to read because he wouldn’t feel as pressured to do so.

  51. There are many stereotypes in the story "To Kill a Mockingbird". Tom Robinson is stereotyped the most because he is a black man. He is expected to do bad things such as rape people. He was accused of raping Mayella Ewells even though she was considered as white trash because black people in the 1940s were treated worse then even the drunkest, sleaziest, least educated, white people. White people in this story don’t care about his personal life all they care about is his skin color. The Cunningham’s are also stereotyped. They are stereotyped because they are not wealthy and people don’t know that they are truly nice people and it doesn’t matter that they are poor. Boo Radley is stereotyped in the story because he stays in his house and no one ever hears from him or sees him. If people got to know the reason why Boo didn’t come out of his house they would probably understand him and not stereotype him as a freak.

  52. There are a few stereotypes in this book. One is against the black people. They always get blamed of doing something wrong even if they didn’t do it. The white people don’t get blamed for anything bad, they can always just blame a black person. Nobody thought that it was Bob Ewell who hit Mayella because he was white, so they blamed Tom Robinson for it. Another one is about the Cunningham’s. People say that they are slobs and poor. They aren’t rich but they can still make a living. Walter is nice and isn’t a slob. He wants to be treated like everyone else but he won’t accept what he can’t return. A lot of stereotypes are not true in Maycomb, Alabama.

  54. Two people that come to mine that were sterotyped were Tom Robinson and Walter Cunningham. The main reason for Tom being sterotyped is because he is black. He was not guilty in court, but since he was black no one cared and they automatticly guilty no matter what. The jury didn't give Tom a chance to prove him self just because he is black. Walter Cunningham is another person in the book that was sterotyped. The main reason is because he is from Old Sarum where poor people live. Aunt Alexandra tells Scout the Walter is trash and to never have the boy over the house again. These two people were exposed to sterotypes in the book.

  55. There are some characters in To Kill a Mockingbird that are stereotyped. One family is the Ewells. They are thought of as animals in Maycomb. I think this is right because most of them are not good people. Bob Ewell gets drunk a lot and ignores the needs of his kids. He also lied in court. Another person is Tom Robinson. People thought he was guilty just because he was black. I think this is wrong because they shouldn’t judge him, and he is a good person. Also, the Cunninghams are stereotyped. Aunt Alexandra says that Scout can’t invite Walter over because the Cunninghams are “trash.” They are actually decent people but everyone judges them because they are farmers from Old Sarum and not educated. 56. There are many stereotypes that exist in To Kill a Mocking Bird. The sad truth of the matter is that some stereotypes are wrongly fitted. The Cunninghams are harshly judged as “trash”. However you will never find a prouder people on the streets of Maycomb. There own wealth as duped other into the belief that just because they wear town close and dirt covered feet that they are a pathetic group but they are so poor because they except no charity. People are often reluctant to look into another soul to find the person beneath the skin. For the rich this quality of man is well thought of for it covers there greedy souls but in the eyes of the Cunninghams it only hurts them for even though they walk in shambles their heats are pure. Very rarely does a stereotype fit with out the help of the victim. The Ewells let them selves fall into stereotypes because they change their lives accordingly. Instead of living a respectable life as the Cunninghams they choose to live literally in the dump. As wrong as it is people have truth behind calling the Ewells trash not for the way they live but for what they let them selves up to be.

  57. There are lots of stereotypes in To Kill A Mocking Bird. The biggest one in my opinion is the stereotypes that blacks were bad and lower in society than whites. Whites thought that black men only stole and raped white women. In trial, all the evidence supported that Tom Robinson had not raped Mayella. But, the rascist jury found him guilty anyways because they were hypocrits.

  58. There are many different stereotypes in the book. One obvious one is the black community. All of the white people think that they are bad people just because of the color of their skin. They consider them dangerous for no apparent reason. Tom Robinson is an example of how incorrect this stereotype is. He is a nice person who just wants to help people, like how he helped Mayella with her chores and common household issues. He is living proof that stereotyping is wrong because it isn’t always true. This is one example of stereotyping in Maycomb.

  59. The group that is stereotyped is the black community. They are seen as people who are guilty for everything and people who don’t make a lot of money and are very poor. Many whites don’t want to mix with blacks and want to have nothing to do with them. That is why the blacks and whites live in different parts of town. Also, even though Tom Robinson was innocent and the evidence Atticus brought out proved this, many people thought Tom Robinson was still guilty just because of the fact that he was black. Lastly, Bob Ewell probably beat Mayella up because she was kissing Tom Robinson who was a black. All of the above shows how the black community is stereotyped.

  60. One group that was stereotyped was the black community. They are seen as guilty, illiterate, and are blamed for everything. One example of this is when Mayella Ewell accused Tom Robinson of raping her when he was an innocent man. It doesn’t really matter if you were innocent because as long as you were black you were guilty of something. There are only a few people in town who are not racist. The Ewells are very low in society, but nobody cares because a black person was accused of raping one of them. In conclusion, the black community was the group in the story that was stereotyped.

This stereotype is wrongly assigned because they are being judged as a group and not as individuals.

  63. In this story there is a lot of stereotyping taking place. One example of this is that everybody considers the Ewells rude people who live in a dump, they don’t even think about how they are on the inside. The people who are think this don’t even care how they really are they just care a bout the families reputation. Another example is that The Cunningham’s are also stereotyped. For example everybody knows that they re really pour and don’t really care about anything else about them. For example when Walter is over for a meal at the Finch’s house and scout is talking to Calpurnia she said that Walter is not a guest he’s just a Cunningham. One last example is about Boo Radley. He is stereotyped because of his family history. Everyone thinks that he stabbed his father in the leg so now he never comes out until night ware he sneaks around looking into everyone’s windows.

  64. In the book, all the black people are stereotyped as bad people. The whites just assumed that all black people were bad and that anything bad that happened in town were caused by black people. That is extremely unfair because, although some of those people might be bad, most of them are kind, nice, and hardworking people, just like the whites. This is true for Tom Robinson. He was just a kind person helping Mayella Ewell, but even though her father beat her, everybody blamed Tom because he was black. Also, when Jem was chased out of the Radley yard by the gun, Nathan Radley just assumed that it was a black person who got so scared he turned white. Nathan automatically jumped to the wrong conclusion because the people in this town and all the southern states were taught and always thought that everything was always the black people’s fault.

  65. There are a lot of examples of stereotypes in the book To Kill A Mockingbird. One example of a stereotype is that people are against black people. Like Tom Robinson he was stereotyped because he was accused of rape because he was black even when he didn’t do it. Another example of a stereotype in the book is the poor families. For example, Aunt Alexandra calls the Cunningham’s trash. She calls them that because they are poor and she doesn’t even know them. That is a very stereotypical comment and it is very wrong to say.

  66. There are many groups of people in this book that are stereotyped. One group that is stereotyped is the blacks. They are stereotyped because most of them are good people but the few bad ones ruin their reputation. Also white people can just blame things on black people even though they did nothing. Another person who is stereotyped is Mayella Ewell. This is because she is nice but her family reputation brings her down. Stereotyping is common in this book.

  67. In the story steryeotyping is everywhere. The Radley's are steryeotyped as an evil family for having a crazy son and living in a beat up house. In the story the cunninghams are sometimes stereotyped because in this story Scout said that Walter was just a Cunningham. The most common from of stereotyping in this story is on the blaack community. Bob Ewell is sort of shunned by Maycomb but even he tries to put the blacks down by saying they are devauluing his property, which is located in a dump with tin cans as a roof. Also, in the trial Tom robinson shows respect by saying sir or ma'am after every sentence but Mr. Gilmore calls him boy or son like he is a child. These are the examples of stereotyping in To kill a Mockingbird. Eric d.

  68. There are a few good examples of stereotypes in this story. They are the way the Ewells, Cunninghams, and the black people of the town are stereotyped. The Ewells are seen as trash, lazy, and disgraceful. In some ways, this is correct. Bob Ewell is all three of those things, but Mayella is a little different. She works very hard for the family, tries to stay clean, and cares about the flowers she is growing. The Cunninghams are seen as poor, drunks, and uneducated people. This is unfair because they work very hard and never take something they cannot pay back. The black people in the town are looked at as criminals who cannot be trusted. This is the most unfair stereotype of all, because most of the black community is full of good, religious people. Tom Robinson is a perfect example of this. He is a hard worker, cares about his family, and never did anything wrong. All of these stereotypes are untrue in some ways.

  69. A lot of stereotypes occur during this book. Their is one that blacks get blamed for everything because they are supposly lower than the whites. It is always the black peoples's fault.( I didnt get to finish this one, time ran out)

  70. There are a lot of stereotypes in To Kill A Mockingbird. But I believe that the biggest group is the blacks. They were the lowest in society and the whites treated them very bad. During Tom Robinson's trial, all the evidence proved that he was surely innocent. But since the whites hated the blacks, they charged Tom as guilty.

  71. By reading To Kill a Mockingbird, the reader can see the racism towards African Americans. By reading other novels, you will see that there are other kinds of stereotypes and prejudices as well. At the turn on the 20th century, there were job wanted signs posted in store windows with a notation that "NO Irish Need Apply". If you were Jewish, you would be banned from joining the "rich and snobby" country clubs in this country. So, people have had it rough just due to their national origin, religious beliefs, or skin color.

  72. There are many people being stereotyped in Maycomb, Alabama. Boo Radley is one person who is extremely stereotyped. He seems like a very good man by what he has done for Jem and scout. He put items in a tree hole, outside his house, for the kids and fixed jems pants when he got caught in the fence. People make up horrible rumors about poor Boo. They make him seem like a horrible monster, but actually he is a really nice man. Another stereotyped character is Tom Robinson. He has been convicted of rapping Myella Ewell even though he really did not do it. Bob Ewell was probably the one who committed the crime and he is blaming tom to cover himself up. In this time period blacks were mistreated and very often blamed for things they did not do. White people make blacks seem like horribly awful people, and they are not! This was a very racist time. Obviously many people are being stereotyped in this book!

  73. In To Kill a Mockingbird whites stereotype black people. They are all considered dirty, and disgusting people that do nothing besides cause trouble. For example, Tom Robinson was accused of raping Mayella just because he's black even though everyone knows he's an innocent man. This stereotype assigned for the black community is wrong because the skin color of somebody doesn't make them a certain way and most of them are innocent and nicer then the a lot of the whites.

  74. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, blacks are stereotyped. In Tom Robinson’s trial, Tom was stereotyped by the jury. The jury was all poor, white, racist farmers. The jury didn’t care if Tom Robinson committed the crime or not, they were just thinking that all black people are bad and should be put in jail. By thinking that all black people are bad, the jury was stereotyping Tom Robinson.

  75. Mainly the people who are stereotyped are the black community everyone thinks that all crimes are done by black people. This is a stereotype because this isn’t necessarily true. They are actually they are not all criminals they are normal people like everyone else but white people don’t realize the truth that goes with being black. White people thought that black people were uneducated criminals who were always bad when really they were just like them but had a different color in skin.

  76. There are many characters and groups stereotyped in To Kill a Mockingbird. One stereotyped group is the Negro population of Maycomb. Most of the African American population was wrongly stereotyped into rude, incapable uneducated, individuals. There are some African Americans like Lula that fit this description, but most are hardworking people. A character that was stereotyped in To Kill a Mockingbird was Boo Radley. He was stereotyped into a terrible dangerous person. Boo Radley was wrongly stereotyped because all he does is mind his own business and stay out of everyone’s way. A group that was correctly stereotyped in this book was the Ewells. The Ewell family is thought to be wrong lazy people. This stereotype is correct.

  77. People stereotype the black community. The white folks think that the black community is less intelligent or have less courtesy, but it seems to me that the black people are more courteous. For example Calpurnia is a smart woman and can teach Scout and Jem how to read better than many other people in Maycomb. Calpurnia also stereotypes the black people because she talks differently when she is at church than when she is with the Finch family in their home. Scout asks Calpurnia “why do you talk nigger-talk to the – your folks when you know it’s not right?” Calpurnia answers, “Well, in the first place I’m black-“. That is stereotypical of the way black people should talk.

  78. There are many characters and groups stereotyped in To Kill a Mockingbird. Black people in this book are the major group who is stereotyped in this book. If you are black and live in Maycomb in this book you are guilty before proven inoccent which is wrong instead of the right way of being inoccent before proven guilty. For example Tom Robinson in the case against the Ewells. Another person who is stereotyped is Boo Radley. He is stereotyped in a bad way.Just because Stephanie Crawford said something about him he was ruled out as being a bad person and to never go near him. As you can see there are many groups and people who are stereotyped in this book.

  79. There are many characters in the story To Kill a Mockingbird that are stereotyped. One character is Tom Robinson. He was pleaded guilty for raping Mayella Ewell even know he did not do it. The jury said he was guilty because they are prejudice and they don’t like Tom because he is black. Another character that is stereotyped is Atticus. He is sometimes made fun of for defending a black person. He knows it is a right thing to do. These are the two major characters in the story that are stereotyped.

  80. There are many stereotypes in, To Kill a Mockingbird. One group is how the blacks are separated from the whites. The blacks are treated very poorly as the whites the opposite. The whites could get away with anything. On the opposite side is how Jem, Atticus, Scout, and Calpurnia stick together. Even if something goes wrong they work together and fix it.
